Thirst Quencher: The "Summer Babe"

Friday, August 1, 2014

The ultimate summer evenings in NYC ideally include a breezy roof top, a chilled beverage and good company. We like the Wythe Hotel for all of these reasons. A couple of weeks ago we popped in to their rooftop bar, The Ides, to meet up with our longtime friend and master drink-slinger, Carlos. He made one of their summer cocktails for us, called the "Summer Babe"--a light-refreshing-not-too-sweet beverage served chilled and up.

The "Summer Babe"

What you'll need:

  • 3/4 oz. Fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz. Genepy Des Alpes
  • 2 oz. Greenhook Gin

How To:

  • Combine all ingredients into shaker with ice
  • Shake vigorously
  • Strain into chilled glass
  • Garnish with lemon twist
  • Drink

We sipped and took in the view of Manhattan and chatted among friends. It was the perfect end to a long work day. Hell, we may just have to stop by again on the way home today!

In between talking us through the drink and asking how our days had been, we asked Carlos some questions ourselves:

Favorite Bar of All Time: Max Fish

Personal drink of Choice: Budweiser

Favorite Work Drink to Make: Summer Babe

Best NY Slice: Joe's

Alternative Profession: DH (Designated Hitter, for those of you who don't know)

Theme Song to your life: "Tragedy" -The Wipers

Knicks or Nets: Dodgers

The Ides at the Wythe Hotel is located at 80 Wythe Ave. on the 6th Floor in Williamsburg and it's open 5pm-1:30am. Follow them on Instagram for all of their daily updates: @wythehotel

  1. Wythe Hotel is amazing. I was two years ago there and I loved the view. Mew and my boyfriend we booked it with this site. The Summer babe looks like an amazing drink. Will try it out next time I am in a mood for party.

  2. Their manager rocks! Thanks to the great team at party venues in Houston, I'm so happy I choose this venue for my event! I had a great time here and think the atmosphere is as good as it gets. I will be astonished if I ever find a negative review on these guys.
